Ismaël Koné is Marseillais
A graduate of the CS Saint-Laurent academy in Canada, Ismaël Koné made his professional debut for CF Montreal in February 2022, scoring his first goal in a CONCACAF Champions League match. With the Quebec club, the Canadian midfielder made 32 appearances (scoring 4 goals) and stood out for his athletic ability. Equipped with a sharp intelligence for the game and a real appetite for repetition of effort between the two surfaces, Ismaël Koné and his 88 metre frame were quickly spotted by European teams.
In December 2022, the box-to-box midfielder signed for Watford Hornets. His propensity to get forward and his ability to break down defensive lines made him a key player for his two successive coaches, Slaven Bilic and Valérien Ismaël, and he played 63 games for them in a season and a half.
His outstanding performances for the Vicarage Road outfit also earned him the honour of being voted best young Canadian player by the Canadian Football Association for two consecutive years (2022 and 2023), and he even went on to take part in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with the Canucks. Currently in the United States for the Copa America, and still in contention at the quarter-final stage, he will join Marseille at the end of the tournament.
