Five goals scored against Montpellier, ten against them in total this season, Mason Greenwood's eighteen goals, a record attendance at the Orange Vélodrome... These are the key figures to remember from OM-Montpellier HSC.

On Saturday evening, Olympique de Marseille defeated Montpellier 5-1 at the Orange Vélodrome. In the first leg, Roberto de Zerbi's players won 5-0 at the Stade de la Mosson. Over the course of the season, Marseille have now scored 10 goals against Montpellier in two Ligue 1 matches. This is the first time OM has scored so many goals against the same opponent in a single season since 1971-72, when they scored ten goals against Red Star (OM 6-0 Red Star and Red Star 2-4 OM).

This season, it is the fifth time that OM has scored five goals in five Ligue 1 matches (Brest 1-5 OM, Montpellier 0-5 OM, OM 5-1 Le Havre, OM 5-1 ASSE and OM 5-1 Montpellier). The 2024-2025 OM team has equalled its third highest total in a single season. The Marseille team scored five goals in five games in 1947-48, in six games in 1948-49 and in seven games in 1970-71.

Mason Greenwood scored his 17th and 18th goals of the McDonald's Ligue 1 season with a penalty in the eighth minute and another in the 67th minute against Montpellier. In the 21st century, only Didier Drogba, with 19 goals in 2003-04, and Bafétimbi Gomis, with 18 goals in 2016-17, have scored more goals in their first season at OM.

The most impressive record was probably the attendance figure at the Orange Vélodrome. Against Montpellier, 66,312 spectators took their seats at the stadium on Boulevard Michelet, beating the previous record of 66,200 set against Saint-Etienne earlier in the season. Once again, the atmosphere in the stadium was worthy of this new record.
