Roberto De Zerbi's reaction at the press conference following his team's defeat at Nice on Matchday 19 of the Ligue 1 McDonald's 2024-2025.

‘It was a deserved defeat tonight. We played badly from start to finish. We suffered too much from the first goal we conceded. After that, we tried to attack but we never had the determination to get back into the game. That can happen because this is a difficult league. Lille have lost, PSG have lost points, Lyon have lost points and so have we against a strong team with a big squad. We're going to have to start again on Tuesday and try to understand what went wrong tonight. There's not much to take away from the match, despite the fact that we had several good games beforehand.

No, I'm not angry. I'm a bit disappointed and sorry. When we lose, we all lose together, me first. We have to take responsibility for this defeat. I take mine. It can happen because we're not an invincible team. We need to turn the page and bounce back, just as we did after the last defeat to Auxerre. We'll get back up again this time. We're about to embark on the most important phase of the championship, and we need to do it with confidence in our weapons, which have enabled us to reach second place so far.

To bounce back, we're going to do what we did after losing to Auxerre, with the group, with the game, with the values of the people in the dressing room, who are good people. There are no secrets. We have to deal with defeats. Tonight was a hard blow. We didn't expect it, we didn't want it. On Sunday, we have to play a big game against Lyon. Today was different from the games against Lille and Strasbourg when we played well. Tonight we played badly and Nice deserved to win. Congratulations to them and also to the referee, who was very good this evening.

Yes, I'm asking a lot of them but we're OM, we're the team that has to play the game. The centre-backs also have to play the game, and they have to take responsibility for that. Indeed, Lilian Brassier may have missed his match, but who doesn't? As I always say, I'm the one who makes the most mistakes. Tonight, he made a mistake, but not because we asked him to play, to make the game. He made a mistake and as long as I'm here, the centre-backs will have to play. If they don't like it, they can watch the game from the stands.

Yes, I'm happy with my choice and happy to be working at Marseille. I have no regrets. I was sad to leave Brighton because I had a bond with everyone at the club, the players and the fans. But the time had come for me to leave. I'm very happy at Marseille and I'd like to achieve great results there. It's a difficult challenge, but it's a great one. I feel very good here and I'd like to stay for a long time.
