Pierre-Emile Højbjerg joins Marseille
After playing for the youth teams of FC Copenhagen and Brøndby IF, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg made his professional debut with Bayern Munich. At the age of 17 years and 251 days, he took his first steps in official competition in April 2013, becoming the youngest player ever to play in a league match for the Bavarian club. His time at Bayern, interspersed with two formative loan spells at FC Augsburg and Schalke 04, also saw him called up to the Danish national team at the age of 18, and he went on to win the Bundesliga and the German Cup.
After his young and fruitful experience in Germany, he signed for Southampton FC in 2016. With the Saints - where he quickly became captain - the defensive midfielder played 134 games and impressed in the Premier League. His technical ability, his ability to work hard in midfield and his propensity for winning balls made him a real force in the English league, and attracted the attention of Tottenham, with whom he signed in the off-season until 2020.
The Danish midfielder is a reliable player and a good finisher, and is continuing to make progress with the London club. In 4 seasons, he played 184 games for Spurs, scoring 10 goals and providing 16 assists. An experienced player with 36 European Cup appearances and 80 caps to his name, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg was even named in the Euro 2020 team of the tournament, making an active contribution to his side's run to the semi-finals. Coached by the likes of Pep Guardiola and José Mourinho during his career, the Dane has now strengthened Roberto De Zerbi's squad.
